Reflection Module 3~Publication

Reflection Module 3~Publication

This was my first experience using Microsoft Publisher.  I began by downloading the free trial version from Microsoft.  It took a really long time to download and I had to download it a few times as there appeared to be some compatibility issues with Windows Vista.  After about an hour of this, it finally installed and I began to play around with it.  I knew I wanted to create something that could be used as an advertisement for a school Thanksgiving program, so I began to play around with some Thanksgiving templates.  I found one under the greeting card section and after about an hour of tweaking it, I entered all my information, saved it and closed down the program.  I tried to reopen it the next evening and I got an error message.  So frustrating!  I uninstalled the program and then reinstalled it and did the entire project over again, but didn’t close it down, but rather printed it up.  Upon printing it, I realized that the greeting card option wouldn’t work for what I wanted.  I uninstalled the program and hoped that the school that I am doing my internship at would have Publisher installed on their network.  During my lunch break, I went on my supervisors computer and saw that they did in fact have Publisher 2007.  I took this time to re-create my project and save it on my flash drive.  Instead of creating a greeting card, I used a flyer and then searched for some appropriate templates that I imported into Publisher.  I changed my fonts and colors and after nearly an hour, I was happy with what I created.  I printed up my flyer and saved it to my flash drive.  I felt well prepared for class on Saturday.

Having never worked with Publisher before, I was satisfied with the user-friendly applications that mimicked other Microsoft products that I have used in the past (PowerPoint especially).  As frustrated as I was with the install/uninstall process on my personal computer, I wouldn’t change a thing about my experience.  It taught me how to troubleshoot, think outside the box, and learn through trial and error.
